ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s daughter, Sumeyye, today marries fiancé Selcuk Bayraktar, a defense industry engineer, in Istanbul.
The couple was engaged on March 20 at Istanbul’s Huber Palace. They will tie the knot in a wedding ceremony at the Yahya Kemal Beyatlı Cultural Center in Istanbul’s Kucukcekmece district.
Istanbul security forces have tightened security and closed off some roads because the father of the bride will attend the ceremony.
Some 6,000 thousand political figures, celebrities and businessmen have been invited to the wedding, among them former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, who resigned earlier this week. He will be among the legal witnesses at the wedding.
The president’s daughter studied sociology and politics at Indiana University in the United States before earning a master’s degree from the London School of Economics, according to Turkish media reports.
The groom graduated from Istanbul Technical University in 2002. He holds master’s degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He also holds a PhD from the Georgia Institute of Technology, reports said.
