ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The armed wing of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in Turkey—the People’s Protection Forces (HPG)—has claimed responsibility for the assassination of two Turkish policemen for what it said was a reprisal for them allowing Monday’s suicide bombing in Suruc.
“The two policemen had links with ISIS and they were killed as a response to the Suruc explosion,” the HPG said in a statement.
The two Turkish policemen were assassinated in Ceylanpinar south of Sanliurfa on Wednesday morning. Both victims were found shot dead in the head in their shared home.
According to information from Turkish security officials, the killed policemen were Feyyaz Uçar and Okay Açar. Their legs and hands were tied from behind and they were both shot in the head with silenced guns, also according to Turkish authorities.
“As a response to the Suruc explosion, on July 22 at 6 am an Ocalan suicide team carried out a revenge operation against two policemen linked to ISIS in Ceylanpinar. The policemen, Feyyaz Uçar and Okay Açar, were killed and their weapons and IDs were seized,” said the HPG statement.
