In the Kurdish province of Kars in northeast Turkey, wheat and barley are being harvested.

These August 19 photos show women sifting wheat and barley.

The now dry lake is located in Kars' Arpacay district, where strong winds and flat land ease the sifting process.

One of the women told Anadolu Agency (AA) that she had travelled all the way from Istanbul to Kars for the sifting.

“Surprisingly, the lake is surrounded by green land while the lake itself is dried up. The women of the villages harvest wheat and barley in the cleansing wind. This work requires a strong wind,” Faziye Akbabye said.
