ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A large number of local populations have found a collection of colorful clothing of an elderly Kurdish taxi driver in Turkey's Kurdish southeast Cizre region strange but at the same time still beautiful.
Aziz Serim, 75, has worn colorful clothing over the past decade. He says he would love to wear colorful outfits that not everybody does. A taxi driver for 28 years, he says his favorite colors are yellow and red.
“I have 75-80 colorful outfits. Almost all of them have colorful shoes. I used to love this colorful clothing in the past. I used to love them but I didn't have the opportunity to wear them. People say that I have a syndrome that's why I wear these outfits. I pay for these clothes. I buy them out of love. I mean, I love to wear a colorful set every day,” Serim told Rudaw’s Abdulsalam Akinci on Thursday.
His home is like a storehouse. The colors he wears are rarely available in the Kurdish region, so he buys special fabrics from metropolitan cities like Istanbul, Izmir, and Ankara and has them sown by three different tailors in Cizre.
Serim says locals of Cizre describe him as "the flower of Cizre."
Serim says dancing is his hobby, so wherever he goes, he dances, be it in the markets, streets of the city, or in his home.
The name and fame of Serim and his unique style have gone beyond the borders of the country. To those who know him, he is a dear uncle, and for those who do not know him, he is the colorful man of Cizre.
