SIRNAK, Turkey - At least two Turkish soldiers were killed and 10 others wounded in intense clashes with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the township of Beytussebap, some 250 kilometers southeast of Diyarbakir and bordering the Kurdistan region.

In a statement Friday, the Turkish Military Command announced the clashes with the PKK in the early hours of the day.

The statement said PKK guerrillas had attacked a military base in Beytussebap, west of Sirnak, where daily clashes have been taking place.

Curfews have been imposed in the areas close to the clashes and drones would find and target PKK retreats in retaliation, the statement warned. It also said the PKK suffered casualties, but did not elaborate further.

Hundreds of people have been killed in the military confrontations between PKK and the Turkish army since July this year, when a two-year ceasefire was broken.

Clashes continue as the country prepares to hold general elections in November, following an inconclusive poll in June, after which the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) failed to muster the seats to form a new government in 45 days.
