ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — A former member of the Turkish parliament from the opposition Nationalist Movement Party was detained in Ankara on allegations of membership in an "armed terrorist organization."
Eren Erdem tweeted that he was under arrest early on Friday morning, detained in front of his house and he didn't know why.
The chief prosecutor in Istanbul issued the arrest warrant for Erdem in Ankara for "membership in an armed terrorist organization," according to Turkey's state-run Anadolu Agency.
Other Turkish media reported he was arrested by Ankara's Security Directorate for Financial Crimes.
Erdem has been in a Twitter feud with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) since 2016.
A state of emergency has been in effect since July 2016 after the failed military coup, giving greater leeway for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government to crackdown on dissent.

The CHP is the largest opposition party in Turkey. They finished second in Turkey's recent parliamentary election and second in the presidential one.
