Thousands of runners flocked to the streets from countries all over the world to take part in the Third Annual Erbil Marathon on Oct. 25.

The marathon was  hosted by a number of sponsors and is an event meant to promote peace and development in the Iraqi Kurdish Region.

A total of nearly 7,000 runners from around the world took part in the event, which consisted of three groups of racers.

The first group was a 4 kilometer run, the second was a 10 kilometer run and the last was a full-marathon of 42 kilometers.

Vincent Cheruiyot, from Kenya, won the full-marathon with a time of 2:33:49.

Second place was taken by Nashwan Zaki from Mosul, Iraq, and third place was taken by Ali Ahmad Salih from Salahhadin, Iraq.
