Indian Shiites have participated in protests condemning the US assassination of Iranian commander Qasem Solaimani, who was killed in a drone strike on January 3.

A US drone strike killed top Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani at Baghdad's international airport on January 3, dramatically heightening regional tensions and prompting arch enemy Tehran to vow "revenge".
India is home to 30 to 50 million Shiites. During the Shiite religious holidays in Iraq, some of them travel to to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala to participate.
