ERBIL, Kurdistan Region- The US Department of Defense confirmed Monday the death of an Islamic State (ISIS) leader in Libya following US coalition airstrikes in November.

Pentagon spokesman Capt. Jeff Davis announced that the leader, Abu Nabil, was targeted in a Nov. 13 airstrike conducted by an F-15 warplane in the eastern Libyan city of Derna.

Nabil, also known as Wissam Najm Abd Zayd al Zubaydi,, was an Iraqi national and former al- Qaeda operative before assuming his role as head of ISIS in Libya.

On December 2, senior terror leader Abdiraham Sandhere was killed during US coalition airstrikes, the pentagon said. Sandhere, known as “Ukash,” was a leader of al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda affiliate in Somalia.

“Ukash's removal from the battlefield is a significant blow to al-Shabaab and reflects the painstaking work by our intelligence, military and law enforcement professionals, and it's an important step in the fight against al-Shabaab,” Davis said.

Two other al-Shabaab militants were also killed in the strike, Davis added.
