ERBIL, Kurdistan Region--Syria's foreign minister said on Thursday that Damascus is ready to participate in the next Syria talks in Geneva "without any foreign interference."

"Our delegation will be ready as soon as we receive a list of the opposition delegation," Reuters quoted Syrian FM Walif Maullem as saying, "We hope that this dialogue will be successful to help us in having a national unity government."

Muallem said that Syria's condition for joining the talks is that there would be no foreign interference in the process.

"This government," he added, "will compose a constitutional committee to look for a new constitution with a new law of election so the parliamentary election will be held within the period of 18 months, more or less."

The U.N. Security Council unanimously approved a resolution last Friday which seeks to bring about a peace process in Syria. The upcoming talks are scheduled to transpire near the end of the January.

Muallam made these comments on a visit to China where he has met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

When asked Wang did not clarify whether or not Beijing felt Assad should remain in power or leave as part of a transitional process.

"China's position is very clear," he said as reported by Reurters, "We believe Syria's future, its national systems, including its leadership, should be decided and set up by the people of Syria. China's role on the Syrian issue is to promote peace and negotiations ... China hopes to see peaceful, stable and developing Middle East."

"China believes that any and all efforts to combat terrorism should be respected and supported," he added.
