ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - As people in the German city of Bottrop  welcomed the New Year a man drove his car into crowd in what appears to be a deliberate attack on immigrants, wounding four Kurds from Afrin.

"I went to the Bottrop arena to celebrate. We had almost arrived there when a car rammed into the people and did not let us even escape. The car ran over my leg, back and forth,"  Alif Bablis, whose husband also injured, said.

Her husband sustained minor injuries.

A child and her father were also injured.

"A few minutes before the new year arrived, we were at the party spot. Our girls were using fireworks, but an expensive Mercedes vehicle suddenly approached us and hit us all, throwing each one of us to the side,"  Sulaiman Dado, the father, said.

"We wanted to flee, but he hurt us more and inflicted more damage on us," Dado, added.

Police have arrested the driver. He is a 50-year-old German national

Authorities said he made anti-immigrant comments during arrest and may suffer from a mental illness.
