ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Kurdistan Region has been targeted by 210 drones and missiles in the first 10 days of the war involving Israel and the United States against Iran, killing four people and wounding 19 others, according to monitoring by Rudaw, and data from a human rights organization operating in the Region.
The attacks began on February 28, the first day of the conflict, and have continued through early Tuesday, striking multiple locations across the Region.
Figures provided to Rudaw by the human rights organization Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) show that four people were killed between February 28 and Monday due to the war and related attacks.
Kamaran Osman, head of the human rights department for CPT in the Kurdistan Region, said the casualties included members of Iranian Kurdish political opposition groups and a security worker.
“Due to the attacks, two Peshmerga from the Kurdistan Freedom Party (PAK) in Erbil province, one Peshmerga from the Komala party in Sulaimani province, and one security member at Erbil International Airport have lost their lives,” Osman told Rudaw on Monday.
CPT said 19 people were wounded during the attacks, including 12 in Erbil province, six in Sulaimani, and one in Duhok.
Among the injured were security personnel and civilians.
Most attacks targeting Iranian Kurdish opposition parties in the Region were carried out by Iran, while Iranian-backed armed groups have claimed responsibility for the majority of attacks launched against other locations in the Region.
Rudaw’s tracking shows that Erbil province was the most heavily targeted, with 183 drones and missiles, followed by Sulaimani with 23, Duhok with four, and Halabja with two.
As of late Monday, the 10th day of the conflict, 181 drone and missile attacks had been directed at Erbil province alone, most of them targeting areas around the provincial capital.
In the province, drones and missiles landed in several residential areas and near Erbil International Airport. Other locations included Degala, Choman, and Soran.
According to Erbil governor Omed Khoshnaw, many of the projectiles were intercepted "destroyed by air defense systems.”
Sulaimani province experienced fewer attacks, with 23 drones and missiles launched between March 3 and Monday night. The heaviest bombardment occurred on Friday, when six drones targeted the city center.
Impacts in Sulaimani province were recorded in the city itself as well as some towns and areas, in addition to areas near Peshmerga command forces Unit 70.
In Duhok province, Rudaw recorded three attacks involving four drones. One strike on March 5 targeted the Sarsang oil field, operated by the US-based HKN Energy, forcing the suspension of oil production at the site.
Halabja province saw the fewest attacks. On Friday, two drones struck Shinrwe Mountain, targeting communication towers belonging to Asiacell and Korek Telecom, according to Rudaw information.
