ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Turkish defense ministry on Wednesday announced that it carried out airstrikes against 14 alleged positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the Kurdistan Region’s mountainous areas.

The ministry said in a statement its air forces struck 14 PKK targets in Gara, Khakurk and Qandil mountains, claiming that “numerous” members of the Kurdish armed group were “neutralized” - a term Turkey uses to denote adversaries captured, wounded, or killed.

The airstrikes were carried out at 7pm local time, according to the statement.

ANF, a media outlet linked to the PKK, reported that Turkey hit a village in Duhok province’s Amedi town Wednesday noon, causing damage to the orchards of the villagers. It did not report any casualties.

The PKK has not commented on Turkey’s latest airstrikes.

Turkey has recently upped its attacks against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region. It has also intensified its targeting of Kurdish fighters in northern Syria due to their alleged ties with the PKK.

Kurdish civilians and rights organizations have criticized Turkey’s military campaign as civilian lives and property are frequently caught in the crossfire.
