MOUNT HALGURD, Kurdistan Region — Tourists from Iraq and abroad journey to Halgurd Mountain in the Kurdistan Region because of the beauty and difficulty of its inclines.
"We guide the tourists from Iraq and abroad who come here," said Salar Chomani who is a mountain climber. "They come during all seasons to climb Halgurd Mountain."
The days fly by when they climb from early morning to late afternoon.
"I've climbed eight mountains, seven of which are over 7,000 meters. For 2017, this year, we've decided to climb two other 7,500-meter mountains in Kazakhstan," said Baizi Nik Bakht.
Halgurd is located in the Zagros Mountains in northern Erbil Province, about 30 kilometers east of Soran. Its elevation is 3,607 metres.
