ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A 73-year-old Kurdish woman from Turkey’s Adiyaman (Semsur) province on Thursday mourned the death of her 90-year-old husband who died in Monday’s deadly earthquake.
A catastrophic 7.5 magnitude earthquake followed a 7.8 quake in southern Turkey on Monday. The tremor has killed nearly 20,000 people, according to the country’s disaster agency.
Mustafa Dogramaci was among the dead. His wife, Nure Dogramaci, visited the house in which both spent more than 60 years together until a strong earthquake collapsed it, killing the elderly man.
She managed to escape the house and even tried to rescue her husband but could not, losing a finger in the failed attempt.
“What am I going to do? Where am I going to go?” she told Rudaw's Rawin Sterk.
There are many other similar stories in her hometown of Pinarbasi (Serekaniye).
