ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A Kurdish family of four were found dead inside their residence in Allen, Texas on Monday from what has been speculated as a murder-suicide, following the death of their young daughter earlier in the month.

The bodies of husband Farman Sherwani, his wife Layla Sherwani, and their two sons Shaheen, 12, and Mateen, 2, were found inside their house by Allen police on Monday. The police were called out to the house by the children’s grandmother who was locked out of the house for nearly two hours.

The family had recently lost their four-year-old daughter Lyian, who drowned in a pool three weeks prior to the incident. The police believe Lyian’s death could have been a factor.

Shahid Hoque, a religious leader of the Islamic Association of Allen, told Rudaw’s Sinan Tuncdemir that the family were part of the association’s program and attended Friday prayers.

“We do not truly understand until one of us go through it. So, after losing their daughter, that grief for the family was pretty much overstruck,” said Hoque.

The family were laid to rest next to Lyian on Tuesday in Denton Muslim Cemetery. The Islamic Association of Allen conducted a mental health awareness program on Wednesday in light of the recent tragedy.
