ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on Friday responded to remarks made by United States President Biden a day prior vowing to “free Iran” amid the ongoing protests, telling his American counterpart that “Iran was freed 43 years ago.”

Pro-government demonstrations were held in Iran on Friday, celebrating Students’ day and the anniversary of the takeover of the US embassy in 1979 by pro-Ayatollah Khomeini students.

“Iran was freed 43 years ago and is determined not to be captured by you [the US],” Iranian state media cited Raisi as saying, while addressing thousands of supporters of the Islamic regime from a podium that read "down with U.S.A."

“What you have brought upon the people of Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, the region and the world in the name of freedom is in front of our eyes and we see the conditions of these countries,” the Iranian president added, stressing that Tehran “will not bow down” before Washington.

Speaking to scores of supporters during a campaign rally in San Diego, California, on Thursday, Biden addressed the nation-wide demonstrations that have engulfed Iran since mid-September as people in the country have challenged the authorities and called for overthrowing the regime that has been in power since 1979.

"Don’t worry, we’re gonna free Iran. They’re gonna free themselves pretty soon,” said Biden without further elaborating on his remarks or specifying what actions Washington plans to take in that regard.

The death of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini while in the custody of Tehran’s morality police on September 16 ignited an unprecedented nationwide protest movement that has brought Iranians from all corners together to call for the overthrow of the Islamic regime.

Iranian authorities, including the ultimate decision maker the Supreme leader Ali Khamenei, accuse the US of being behind the protest to undermine Iran.

“I can say categorically that these riots and insecurity is the plot of the United States and the Zionist regime … and people on their pay and some treacherous Iranians living abroad who helped them,” Khamenei said in October.

US Vice President Kamala Harris on Wednesday revealed that Washington intends to work with other countries to remove Iran from the United Nations’ Commission on the Status of Women, saying that Iran’s presence in the commission “discredits the integrity” of its work.

The use of violence by Iranian security forces to disperse the demonstrators has been widely condemned by the international community.

At least 277 including 40 Children Killed according to the latest tally by the Oslo-based Iran Human Rights Organization (IHR) on Wednesday.
