ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Russia’s foreign ministry on Thursday emphasized that Moscow is ready to mediate talks between Iran and Israel to end their tensions, days after both warring sides reached a ceasefire.

“The goal of Russia's proposals is to mediate disputes related to the implementation of the nuclear program. Because this issue is very sensitive, we do not publicly disclose the details of our proposal. If our proposal is of interest to the relevant parties, we will be ready to continue our mediating role,” Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the ministry told Rudaw during a press briefing.

Russian officials, including President Vladimir Putin, have stated that they are ready to help end tensions between Iran and Israel.

Tensions between both countries escalated on June 13 when Israel carried out numerous airstrikes against Iran’s military and nuclear sites, killing many commanders and nuclear scientists.

US President Donald Trump brokered a ceasefire between both countries on Tuesday. The truce seems to be holding so far.

“We are not imposing anything on anyone; we are simply talking about how we see a possible way out of the situation. But the decision, of course, is up to the political leadership of all these countries, primarily Iran and Israel,” Putin said on Wednesday, reported AP.
