ESSEN, Germany — Duhok Governor Ali Tatar recently met with Thomas Kufen, mayor of the western German town of Essen, to discuss aid for refugees and IDPS in Duhok province.
"Caritas Refugee Aid in Essen has been helping displaced people in Duhok province since 2015. There has been great work done with the help of Caritas. We, as the city of Essen, support Duhok authorities in fields of healthcare and IDP issues," said Essen Mayor Thomas Kufen.
Tatar said Kufen agreed to increase aid in different areas.
A Catholic organization, Caritas serves the poor and promotes charity and justice throughout the world.
"Our main goal is to help refugees find work so they can become independent. We’ve spent nearly 5 million Euros since 2016," said Markus Kampling, head of Caritas Refugge Aid in Essen.
