ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – A suspected Turkish drone on Monday targeted a construction facility in the city of Qamishli in northeast Syria (Rojava), local media affiliated with the Kurdish forces in the region reported.
The drone targeted a facility in central Qamishli city on Monday evening and resulted in material damages, Hawar News Agency (ANHA) said, adding that casualties were also reported without specifying further details.
North Press Agency said that the drone strike resulted in the deaths of at least two people.
Turkey often targets the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) across northern Syria, as it has designated their backbone – the People’s Protection Units (YPG) – as a terrorist organization and the Syrian offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
The PKK is an armed group struggling for the increased rights of Kurds in Turkey and is designated as a terrorist organization by Ankara.
Ankara and its allied Syrian rebel groups, which include radicals, have carried out two major military operations against the SDF in northern Syria since 2018.
Earlier in October, the SDF announced that five of its fighters were killed by the Turkish army in Syria’s northern town of Ain Issa.
