KYIV - Some of the residents of Kyiv believe that the ongoing peace talks between Ukraine and Russia will not lead to any positive results while others insist that the years-long conflict has to end.
"We don't believe in negotiations, they won't do anything. They're just trying to convince us to surrender, that's all. No one believes them," Divono Podoliv told Rudaw.
Nearly four years have passed since the war between Russia and Ukraine broke out, a war that has resulted in hundreds of civilian casualties. Now, with American mediation, efforts to end the war have intensified, but people are hopeless.
"I don't know much about politics, but I see there's some progress and negotiations are underway. I pray for our borders," said Antonyo Krosla.
Other residents said Kyiv and Moscow have to reach a ceasefire.
"I think we need to think less and agree on something. We don't rule this world," Anatoly said.
Russia holds roughly 19.2 percent of Ukrainian territory.
In its talks with the United States about a potential framework to end the war, Russia has consistently demanded full control over the areas of Ukraine it currently occupies.
