ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Israeli airstrikes killed at least 12 people, including civilians, on Syria’s border with Lebanon on Friday, targeting members of Hezbollah, a war monitor reported.

Four Syrian members of the Lebanese Hezbollah movement and eight civilians were killed in the attack that targeted a weapons depot in the industrial zone of al-Qasr city in Syria’s western province of Homs, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which relies on a network of sources within the country.

The UK-based war monitor said two civilians and nine Hezbollah members were also injured in the strikes.

Two civilians were injured in an Israeli attack on al-Qasr on Thursday, according to Syrian state media SANA.

Israel has carried out hundreds of airstrikes on regime-controlled areas of Syria through its over a decade-long civil war, often claiming to target pro-Iran militias, such as Lebanese Hezbollah that supports the Syrian army.

The strikes have increased since October 7 of last year, when Palestinian Hamas launched an unprecedented, large-scale attack on Israeli territory that prompted Israel’s retaliation and the outbreak of war that has spread to Lebanon.

Israel rarely confirms strikes attributed to it in Syria, but has repeatedly warned that it will not tolerate its arch-rival Iran gaining a foothold there.
