ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - Seven people were killed in a traffic accident in northwestern Iran on Saturday, state media reported.

The accident occurred around 7:15 am on Qaidar Abhar Road in the central district of Zanjan province, Tasnim News Agency reported.

The road is known as "the deadliest" in the province, with a high number of accidents occurring on it each year.

“Qaidar Abhar Road is one of the most accident-prone roads in Zanjan province, and in the past years, measures have been taken to widen, fix accident-prone spots, and asphalt this route, but it was not enough,” Ahmad Bigdel, a member of parliament from the province, told Tasnim in August.

Local residents have been demanding further actions from the authorities, but funding has been stalled, according to Tasnim.

In August, the minister of roads and urban development allocated funds for improvements to the road, but it remains a hazard.
