ERBIL, Kurdistan region - A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Iran’s southern Semnan province on Friday and was felt in Tehran, Alborz, and Qom, according to state media. No casualties have been reported.
Fourteen Red Crescent relief teams were dispatched to affected villages, Semnan Governor Mohammad Javad Kolivand told Iranian state media IRNA.
IRNA said there were no military maneuvers or tests in the area.
Iran has come under sustained attack by Israel since last Friday, with its nuclear sites and senior military figures coming under fire. The escalation abruptly ended indirect nuclear negotiations between Tehran and Washington.
Overnight, Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple military industry sites in Tehran, including what Israel described as research and development facilities. In response, Iran launched missile strikes into southern Israel early Friday morning, injuring several people.
