ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - One person was killed and four others were injured in a skirmish between two families in the Tuz Khurmatu district of Salahaddin province on Saturday, the district mayor said.

“The fight occurred near the Khurmatu district administration building. At that time, people were present at the location when shots were fired, resulting in the death of one person who was from outside the district,” Zulfiqar Haider told Rudaw.

Four people were also injured, including one “who was not a party to the fight,” added the mayor.

“Of the four injured, one person's condition is unstable, but the other three are in good condition. All four injured have been transferred to Kirkuk hospital for treatment,” he said.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident and several people have been detained, he added.

Armed clashes between families or tribes are a frequent occurrence in some Iraqi provinces, sometimes requiring intervention from the military. These disputes typically involve the use of light and medium weapons, and in some cases, mortar shells.
