ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) chief Mazloum Abdi said late Friday that he recently met with the general commander of the US troops in the Middle East to discuss the importance of achieving a ceasefire between the Kurdish-led force and Turkey.

Abdi said he met with General Michael "Erik" Kurilla, US Central Command (CENTCOM) commander, and two top commanders from the US-led global coalition against the Islamic State (ISIS).

“The meeting was crucial for assessing Syria's current situation and joint operations against ISIS. We emphasized the importance of international efforts to rehabilitate families in Al-Hol camp and secure prisons,” said the Kurdish commander on X.

Hours earlier, CENTCOM said its chief had visited the SDF-held northeast Syria (SDF) on Thursday and visited the notorious al-Hol camp and Roj camp which house more than 40,000, mostly with ties to ISIS.

Al-Hol camp in Hasaka province is infamous for its squalid conditions and has been branded a breeding ground for terrorism.

Attacks by Turkey and the Syrian groups it supports against the SDF have intensified recently, especially on the crucial Tishreen Dam and Qere Qozaq bridge.

The US brokered a ceasefire between both sides last month but it does not seem to be holding.

“We reaffirmed the importance of strengthening partnerships and the critical role of the U.S. in achieving a permanent ceasefire in Northeast Syria and ensuring security and stability across the entire country,” said Abdi in his statement.
