ERBIL, Kurdistan Region - A suspected Israeli strike on Saturday killed at least two members of Lebanese Hezbollah in central Homs province, a conflict monitor reported.

An Israeli drone targeted a “car and a truck” belonging to Lebanese Hezbollah in the vicinity of al-Qusayr city, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based war monitor.

Two people were killed and several others were injured.

Earlier in the day, one person was killed in a car bombing in the capital Damascus, near the Mezzeh neighborhood where the Iranian embassy is located. No one has claimed responsibility for the bombing.

Israel has carried out hundreds of strikes on regime-controlled areas of Syria throughout its 13-year civil war, often claiming to target pro-Iran militias such as Hezbollah that support the Syrian army.

The strikes have increased since October 7, when Palestinian Hamas militants launched an unprecedented, large-scale attack on Israeli territory. Israel retaliated with a large-scale military operation in Gaza. The United Nations’ top court, the International Court of Justice, on Friday ordered Israel to “immediately halt” its offensive in Rafah, southern Gaza.

While it rarely comments on strikes attributed to it in Syria, Israel has repeatedly warned that it would not tolerate its arch-rival Iran gaining a foothold there.

On April 1, several members of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force (IRGC-QF) were killed in a suspected Israeli airstrike on the consular section of the Iranian embassy.

Israel has attacked Syrian territory at least 41 times since the start of the year, killing at least 141 people and wounding over 57 others, according to SOHR.
